Age 5 years · Loves reading after school.

After school my bag is very heavy. It has my water bottle and my lunchbox and my pencil case and sometimes a rock I found. Amma says I don’t need the rock but I like it.

When I get home I havea snack —usually a banana or sometimes a biscuit if Amma is in a good mood —and then I sit on my reading mat. It is blue with stars on it. It is only for reading.

My favourite book right now is about a bear who loses his hat. He asks everyone, “Have youseen my hat?” and nobody tells him the truth. I already know what happens but I still feel worried every time.

My teacher taught me a trick. Before I open the book I look at the cover and I guess what might happen. I am sometimes wrong and sometime right.

Amma reads with me and she asks me questions like “Why do you think he did that?” and I have to think hard. Once I said I didn’t know and she said that’s okay, thinking is still happening even when you don’t have the answer yet. I liked that.

Papa travels for work. When he comes back he always asks me what I’ve been reading and I tell him everything and he listensto my stories.

I want to read every book in the library one day.
